( This moment was back in 2010 🥹)

I knew about Hajj, the pilgrimage, the people in white, the sacred sites. But the 10 days themselves? I simply didn’t know their weight.

I went about my normal routine as a Student in my early 20s, completely unaware of the treasure sitting right in front of me.

When I finally learned the truth about these days, my heart was shocked, not with guilt, but with longing for all those opportunities I hadn’t known and take.

I’m sharing this with you because I want these days to mean something for you, wherever you are in your spiritual journey.

Dhul Hijjah Is Not Only for the People Making Hajj

This is something I truly wish someone had told me earlier. Yes, Dhul Hijjah is the month of Hajj, but Allah made its blessings available to every Muslim, everywhere.

You don’t need to be in Makkah to receive the reward of these days.

You don’t need to be on a spiritual high or have a perfect routine.

These 10 days belong to you too, right where you are in your home, in your kitchen, work or in the beautiful ordinary days of motherhood.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

”There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.”

(Bukhari)

More beloved than any other days of the year. And that invitation is for all of us.

When Do the 10 Days Begin?

For us here in Saudi Arabia, the first day of Dhul Hijjah is expected today on Monday, Mai 18, 2026. Meaning the 10 blessed days run through to Eid Al-Adha on approx. Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Mark your calendar now, sister. These days come and go quickly.

What Makes These 10 Days So Special?

The scholars say that these 10 days are even better than the days of Ramadan for doing good deeds, but the nights of Ramadan, especially Laylatul Qadr, are still very special. Both are gifts from Allah. But the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah is the ones we often forget about.

Here’s a simple breakdown of the key days:

- 8th Dhul Hijjah (Day of Tarwiyah) — a beautiful day for extra worship and voluntary fasting

- 9th Dhul Hijjah (Day of Arafah) — the crown jewel of the year. Allah descends to the lowest heaven and the angels witness His mercy over His servants. Fasting this day expiates the sins of two full years.

- 10th Dhul Hijjah (Eid Al-Adha) — a day of gratitude, sacrifice, and celebration

- 11th–13th (Days of Tashreeq) — days filled with dhikr and remembrance

A Beautiful Opportunity for Missed Fasts

If you still have missed fasts from Ramadan, whether from illness, pregnancy, nursing, or any other reason — these blessed 10 days are a genuinely beautiful time to make them up. There is no judgment in this reminder, only a warm invitation. Making up those fasts during the days most beloved to Allah means your effort lands in the most honored time of year. That is nothing but mercy from Him.

Even one or two days is a beginning. And Allah sees every single one.

Stay Motivated Daily — Watch the Haram Live

One thing that keeps my heart alive during these days is watching the live stream from Masjid al-Haram. Even just 5–10 minutes of watching the Kaaba, the tawaf, the pilgrims, it pulls your heart right back to what matters.

👉 These Days With Goodness

You don’t need to change your life. As mothers, our days are already full and that fullness itself becomes worship with the right intention.

But here are 8 Ways to get the most goodness and Hasanat from these days:

Pray your five daily prayers on time — consistency matters here more than perfection. Add extra voluntary prayers likethe Sunnah prayers tahajjud, Witr

Read a little Quran daily — even one page or a few verses with meaning is enough. Try one page after each prayer or set a small daily goal

Fast what you’re able — especially the first 9 days if possible. One Day (Arafah) at minimum (the 9th day) — it wipes away sins from the past and coming year. Or use these days to make up missed Ramadan fasts

Make dhikr throughout your day — SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah while you cook, nurse, drive, or rest

Give in charity — even something small during these days carries enormous weight. Every act of charity is multiplied (my rec. is online, because its the easiest way!)

Seek forgiveness (istighfar) — say Astaghfirullah, repent sincerely, and ask Allah to forgive your sins

Write your duas down — Arafah is one of the greatest times for dua to be answered. Come to Allah with your list and come with hope (prepare them in the first days of dhul Hijjah)

Watch the Haram live for a few minutes daily — let it reconnect your heart when life feels loud

Your Dua for This Week

The Prophet ﷺ said,

“The best dua is the dua of the Day of Arafah”. The best dhikr to repeat throughout these days, especially on Arafah, is:

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir

“There is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belongs the dominion and all praise, and He has power over all things.”

Also recite the Takbeer-e-Tashreeq after every fard prayer from the 9th to the 13th of Dhul Hijjah:

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَاَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْد

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallahu wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahil hamd

“Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise.”

I spent years not knowing what I was missing. Now that I know, I hold on these days and I want the same for you.

Wherever you are, however your Ramadan went, however busy life feels right now, these 10 days are an open door.

Walk through it, at your own pace, with your whole heart.

May Allah accept every fast, every dhikr, every dua, and every quiet act of love you offer Him this Dhul Hijjah. The same action done by two different women can carry completely different weight with Allah depending entirely on what is in the heart.

One woman feeds her child because it is just what needs to be done.

Another feeds her child saying in her heart “Ya Allah this child is Your amanah and I am caring for her for Your sake.”

The action looks identical from the outside. This is about every matter of importance in your life and that includes your morning, your cooking, the moment you walk into your child’s room and every conversation you have with the people you love.

Bismillah is not a phrase we say out of habit. And her story has been on my heart so much lately, because i was on the Makkah road to Riad (spend time there over Eid) and remember her story.

Imagine this for a moment. She was left alone in a barren valley with nothing around her except sand and silence and a small baby in her arms. No water, no food, no one to call for help. And yet Ibrahim alayhi assalam walked away because Allah had commanded it. She asked him only one question before he left:

"Did Allah command you to do this?"

He said yes.

And she said: "Then He will not neglect us."

SubhanAllah. She did not freeze. She did not wait for someone to rescue her. She got up and she ran. Back and forth between Safa and Marwa in Makkah seven times looking for any sign of water, any sign of relief. She moved with full trust in her heart and full effort in her body at the same time.

And then Zamzam burst from the ground beneath her baby's feet.

I think about Hajar on the days when I feel like I have already given everything and there is still more being asked of me. The days when the to-do list is long and the energy is short and the barakah feels very far away.

Her story teaches us something so important that we sometimes forget:

Tawakkul is not sitting and waiting. Tawakkul is moving and trusting at the same time.

She did not know where the water was. She just knew who controls water. So she ran.

Whatever you are running between right now, your responsibilities, your duas, your hopes for your family, your own growth as a Muslim woman, know that your effort is seen. Every single step of it.

Allah did not let Hajar's running go unanswered. And He will not let yours go unanswered either.

A du'a to carry with you this week:

❝

حَسْبِيَ ٱللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ ٱلْوَكِيلُ

Hasbiyallahu wa ni'mal wakeel
Allah is sufficient for me and He is the best disposer of affairs.

[Surah Al 'Imran 3:173]

Say it when the day feels too heavy. SubhanAllah!

Later I understood that Allah Himself highlights this night in the Qur’an.

He says:

❝

“Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Decree.”

“And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?”

“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.”

“The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.”

“Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.”

Surah Al Qadr 97:1–5

And Allah also says:

❝

“Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn mankind.”

Surah Ad Dukhan 44:3

This is not just a special night. This is a life changing night.

It is better than a 1000 months, which means more than 83 years of worship.

It begins after Maghrib and lasts until Fajr, and we are told to seek it in the odd nights of the last ten nights. So it could be the 21st, the 23rd, the 25th, the 27th, or the 29th Ramadan night.

(Reminder the night starts always a night before which means in the 20. Ramadan day after Maghrib start the night from 21th etc)

This night can change your situation immense.

Your struggles can shift. Your heart can soften. Your sins can be forgiven. Your future can look completely different because of one sincere night.

If you do not know what exactly to do, here is a simple structure you can follow:

1) Prepare and stay awake as long as possible

Make the intention before Maghrib that this night matters.

Try to stay awake as long as you can during these nights.

Reduce distractions. Keep your phone away. Create a quiet space where your heart can focus.

2) Pray with presence and sincerity

Pray Isha and Taraweeh with attention. Add extra rakah during the night, even if they are few.

Pray slowly. Prolong your sujood and speak to Allah there.

The Prophet ﷺ used to strive harder in the last ten nights than at any other time.

3) Read Qur’an with reflection

Open the Qur’an and do not rush. Read even a few pages with understanding. Think about the words of Allah speaking directly to you. Let the verses soften your heart and guide your dua.

4) Make deep and personal dua

This is the night to ask for everything.

The Prophet ﷺ taught Aisha to say:

❝

“Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwa fa’fu anni.”

O Allah, You are the Ever-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.

Repeat it often.

Ask for forgiveness. Ask for guidance. Ask for your family. Ask for your dreams. Fasting

Fasting is one of the best actions you can do during Dhul Hijjah. You can fast any or all of the first 9 days. But the most important day to fast is the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, known as the Day of Arafah.

Fasting on this day expiates the sins of the past and coming year.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"It expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year." (Muslim)

2. Dhikr & Takbeer

Fill your days with dhikr, the remembrance of Allah.

Say

SubhanAllah,

Alhamdulillah,

La ilaha illallah, and

Allahu Akbar

often throughout your day. Start this from Dhul Hijjah 1 and continue all the way through Eid.

Beginning Dhul Hijjah 9 at Fajr, begin the loud Takbeer after each fard prayer. This continues until the Dhul Hijjah 13 after Asr.

The words of the Takbeer are:

Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, Lā ilāha illa-Allāh,
Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, wa lillāhil-ḥamd.

(Taqbeer)

This powerful declaration connects you with millions of Muslims worldwide, celebrating Allah's greatness during these holy days.

3. Salah and Extra Prayers

These are days to establish and beautify your daily prayers. Pray all five fard prayers on time, and add Sunnah and Nafl prayers, especially:

Tahajjud (last third of the night),

Duha (mid-morning),

Witr and

Sunnah (before and after obligatory prayers).

The night before Arafah is a perfect time to make Tahajjud and dua.

4. Qur’an Recitation

Make a goal to read the Qur’an daily during these ten days, even if just one page. Aim to reflect, not just read. Choose a specific time (after Fajr or before bed) and make it your daily moment of connection with Allah’s words.

5. Charity (Sadaqah)

Giving during these days carries immense reward. Even a small coin, a meal shared, or a kind word can count as sadaqah. You can also give online to relief causes, or help someone in your local area.

Specially on the Day of Arafat!

6. Repentance and Istighfar

These are the best days to return to Allah. Say Astaghfirullah often. Reflect on your heart and your habits. What needs to change? What have you neglected?

Write down your dua for forgiveness and say it during times of quiet and sincerity — after Fajr, before sleep, and especially on Arafah.

7. Du’a – Especially on Arafah

The Day of Arafah (Thursday, June 5) is the most powerful day of the year for dua. Even if you’re not on Hajj, you can stand in your own space and raise your hands with full hope in Allah’s mercy.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah.”

(Tirmidhi)

Make a list of your personal duas — for your faith, your family, your future — and read it slowly between Dhuhr and Maghrib.

Repeat this powerful dhikr frequently on Arafah:

La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer.

Hadith (Tirmidhi)

8. Qurbani (Udhiyah – Sacrifice)

On Dhul Hijjah 10, Eid al-Adha, those able should offer a sacrifice. The act commemorates the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام and is an expression of our own submission to Allah.

From Dhul Hijjah 1, if you intend to offer Qurbani, do not cut your nails or hair until your sacrifice is complete.

9. It touches everything: our time, energy, relationships, and even the simplest tasks we do every day. Here’s how to invite barakah into your life through intentional, faith-centered actions:

1) Start with Salah and Dua

The best way to begin your day is with Fajr.

The Prophet ﷺ said: "O Allah, bless my nation in their early mornings." (Tirmidhi)

Waking up early for Fajr, even when you’re exhausted, brings unseen blessings. It sets the tone for a peaceful and productive day.

Before starting work, homemaking, or parenting duties, ask Allah for barakah in your time, effort, and responsibilities.

A simple dua like:

“My Lord, bless me in what You have given me.” (Surah Al-Isra: 24) can bring ease into your daily struggles.

2) Strengthen Your Relationship With the Qur’an

Allah describes the Qur’an as a source of blessing:

"This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, that they might reflect upon its verses." (Surah Sad: 29)

Even if you’re busy, take five minutes after Fajr or before bed to recite a few verses.

Play Qur’an recitation while cooking or doing house chores—it fills the home with blessings.

Reflect on one ayah a day; you’ll see how it applies to your daily struggles and decisions.

Thanks for reading The Barakah Letter! (Muslim)

Giving money isn’t the only form of sadaqah—your time, kindness, and even a smile count.

If you’re busy with work or kids, simply feeding a bird, giving away unused items, or sharing beneficial knowledge online can bring barakah into your day.

When feeling stuck or unproductive, give charity—even a small amount—and watch how Allah opens doors for you.

4) Practice Gratitude in Small Moments

Allah promises:

"If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]." (Surah Ibrahim: 7)

Instead of focusing on what’s lacking, say Alhamdulillah for what you have.

When cleaning, be grateful for your home. When feeding your kids, appreciate the blessing of provision.

Practical Tip: Writing down three things you’re grateful for each day shifts your mindset and invites barakah into your heart and home.

5) Focus on Intentions in Everything You Do

The Prophet ﷺ taught:

"Actions are judged by intentions." (Bukhari & Muslim)

Before starting work, say Bismillah and intend to serve your family or community for Allah’s sake.

When cooking, cleaning, or doing chores, remind yourself that these acts, done with sincerity, are forms of worship.

Bismillah first, Barakah follows…

Before responding to your children, pause and set an intention to react with patience—it transforms parenting into an act of ibadah.

6) Surround Yourself With Righteous Company

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"The example of a good companion is like that of a seller of musk." (Bukhari & Muslim)

If you’re a busy mom or working professional, be mindful of who influences you.

Engage with people, whether online or in person, who remind you of Allah and uplift you.

Join a Qur’an study group, follow inspiring Muslim creators, or simply spend time with family members who encourage faith.

Barakah isn’t about doing more—it’s about inviting Allah’s blessings into what you do.

في أمان الله

May Allah Protect You

Zainab

Thanks for reading The Barakah Letter!
